“…this is a wonderful place and I am very lucky to be able to have the chance to be here." - shelter resident
Financial Donations

                                                                         November 9, 2009

Dear Friends,

Winston Churchill once said, "We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give." As this holiday season approaches, Women's Transitional Care Services asks you to help rebuild someone else's life while making your own.

Our services depend on the generosity from concerned citizens like you. During the last fiscal year (July 2008 to June 2009), through your financial support, The Willow Domestic Violence Center was proud to:

  • Provide 6,897 individual's nights at our shelter

  • Shelter more than 141 women and 121 children

  • Answer 1,789 crisis calls

  • Assist 1,286 people in the community

  • Educate 3,006 people in the community about domestic violence

In fiscal year 2010, there is so much more we can do together. Your continued support helps The Willow Domestic Violence Center ensure that a mother will have a safe place to take her children when their lives are in danger; that a young woman fearing for her safety can call someone - 24 hours a day - to ask for help; and that we continue to educate our friends, our families and our community about what they can do to prevent, to stop and to end domestic violence.

This holiday season, we are asking for your help and your continued financial support as we strive to serve an increasing number of domestic violence victims and survivors, and their children. Like most community-based programs, our expenses continue to escalate while our funding from state, federal and local funding sources have declined or remained static. Yet, in 2009, we served 200 more women and children in need than in the previous year. This makes your donation more important than ever.

As you can see, this means we are more reliant on the generosity of our friends in the community. Your donations will help us continue important programs and services, including:

  • A kitchen full of healthy meals for our shelter residents

  • Crisis counseling for children at the shelter

  • Support groups services for domestic violence survivors

  • Staffed 24-hour crisis line
